Finally Some Good Fishing

Report Date: February 10, 2017

Hey! We finally got some good fishing.

Saturday we had a half day with a young couple who caught 4 sailfish and a nice kingfish.

Saturday night we had a snook trip. Everything looked great. We marked a good school of fish and the tide was perfect. Soon we caught a nice 31 inch snook, then a throwback snook. That was it. We should have gone home. The next 3 hours produced one paddle head shark.

Sunday we fished with Manny, his son Alex and his sons Alex,13, and Adrian,11. They had a great day with little Alex catching a big tough sailfish and Adrian catching an estimated 350 pound hammerhead shark. The rest of the day was devoted to catching dinner. The family caught a bunch of vermillion snappers, a couple red snapper, a mutton snapper, 4 yellow eye snappers, a big red grouper and a couple almaco jacks.

John joined us Monday and caught 3 of 5 sailfish, 2 sharks, 2 tuna and 10 bonito.

Kingfish schools have been available up and down the coast. They were solid off Government Cut on Monday, but for the visiting angler they don't compare to those sailfish.

We are due for a cold front tonight and I look forward to more good fishing as water temperatures drop. Tarpon and sailfish travel south as waters cool. They are north of here and we will be glad to have them.
